Retrofit Barrier
Accredited fire remediation system for light gauge steel-framed buildings
The UK’s only KIWA-certified, cost-effective, and minimally disruptive fire safety solution, combining A1 non-combustible insulation with enhanced thermal performance to protect lives, reduce costs, and meet stringent fire safety standards without tenant disruption.
Fire Safety with Retrofit Barrier
Non-combustible: InstaFibre 034, the material used in the Retrofit Barrier, is classified as European Class A1 (non-combustible).
Certified and tested: The system meets BS-8414-2 fire safety testing standards. InstaGroup has performed multiple successful project-specific fire tests, ensuring that the system meets or exceeds regulatory requirements.
Accreditation: The Retrofit Barrier system is KIWA-approved (BDA Certificate No: BAW-21-206-S-A-UK), making it one of the few systems in the UK with full accreditation for cavity wall fire protection.

The InstaGroup Retrofit Barrier offers substantial value in multiple key areas
-
Cost SavingsThe Retrofit Barrier is 20-50 times cheaper than traditional methods, which typically involve the removal of cladding and re-insulating the building.
The installation process is faster, with significantly lower labour and material costs, ensuring a substantial reduction in overall project budgets. -
Minimal Tenant DisruptionThe Retrofit Barrier system is installed externally via small 22mm holes, meaning that there is no need for tenant relocation or major disruptions to daily activities.
The system can be installed quickly (50-70m2 per day), often in a fraction of the time compared to traditional remediation solutions. -
Enhanced Thermal EfficiencyThe system fills the cavity voids with A1 fire-grade insulation, which enhances the thermal properties of the building, reducing energy consumption and improving the overall energy efficiency of the building.
By improving insulation, the system also contributes to the long-term sustainability of the building, reducing future energy costs. -
Durability and Long-Term ValueThe Retrofit Barrier has a service life equivalent to the building's lifespan, expected to last 60+ years. Once installed, it requires minimal maintenance, reducing future operational costs.
The system is not susceptible to damage from common environmental factors like moisture or temperature fluctuations. -
Broad ApplicationAccredited only for light gauge steel-framed buildings with masonry external leaves. However, the system would be applicable to other building types such as RC framed buildings.
Approved for use in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland with a possible extension to our accreditation in Southern Ireland coming in 2025.
Project-specific testing and quality assurance
Every building goes through a BS-8414 test involving replicating the building with the original design and materials before igniting it over a combustion chamber to ensure its efficacy.
InstaGroup’s experienced in-house technical team will carry out the required auditing and comprehensive QC procedures are undertaken on all Retrofit Fire Barrier projects. Highly skilled and experienced on site supervision personnel will be in place for every project.
